Yolanda Murphy-Barrena

Yolanda Murphy-Barrena has over 25 years experience teaching, coaching and leading in schools and professional development associations around the world.

Yolanda is currently the Executive Director/ CEO of The Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE), a global educational leadership association established in 1966. Prior to leading AAIE, Yolanda was an administrator, coach and new program developer at Frankfurt International School (FIS) in Germany, where she founded the European League of Middle Level Educators (ELMLE) Leadership Group, providing professional development and an online network of colleagues for middle & upper school principals and heads across Europe and the Middle East.

Prior to this, she was a successful principal, coach and curriculum developer in St. Paul, MN, at several schools that each received national and state recognition for the development of highly rigorous teaching, learning, athletics and social development programs. Yolanda holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education and Curriculum Development, licensure as a K-12 principal and K-12 superintendent and is currently completing a Doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership.

Yolanda is passionate about expanding and developing the international leadership capacity by connecting emerging, current and legacy leaders in online and in-person professional development opportunities that share the ideas, knowledge and resources that promote excellence within the diverse international school community.
