Bar Model in Solving Word Problems by Ban Har Yeap

In this session, we will look at examples of challenging word problems that are typical in Singapore schools and how to use bar models to make sense of the problems.

This session is suitable for teachers in the upper primary and lower secondary levels.

Ban Har Yeap

Ban Har worked for a decade at Singapore's sole teacher education institute, National Institute of Education at Nanyang Technological University until 2010.

Currently, he is the principal of Marshall Cavendish Institute, a professional development institute for teachers as well as Director of Curriculum and Professional Development at Pathlight School in Singapore and Academic Director at Anglo Singapore International School in Thailand.

He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics education and M.A. in Southeast Asian Studies and M.Ed.
